My name is Aleksanteri Karanka though people usually call me saska. I was born in 1991 in Tampere, Finland, where I’m still living to this day.
I've worked as a full-time designer for ~year. Before that I worked as a full-stack developer (ranging from WordPress to mobile app development) for ~five years. In 2022 I also became a certified Web Accessibility Specialist .
At the moment (January 2023) I'm happily employed at Vincit as a UI Designer / Accessibility Expert.
In 2019 I was tasked to create a replacement for the old web site of Finnish Osteogenesis Imperfecta Association. The new site was to be a complete overhaul: a new coat of paint, modernized technology, and new sections like event calendar and a newsletter archive.
Osteogenesis Imperfecta is a rare genetic disorder that causes brittle bones.
The main purpose of the site is to deliver and archive information about the association and the disorder itself. With that in mind I decided to concentrate on substance-focused, clear presentation.
An updated version of the logo had to be created as there wasn't a vectorized version available. I created two variations of the logo: one that was as close as possible to the original logo and another one with thicker line and the text separated from the logomark that would be more suitable for small sizes in web use.
While the focus was on making information clear and easily navigable, there’s still a lot small flourishes: splash of color here, a subtle animation there. As the vast majority of the content is just text, a lot of care went to making it look interesting and the specifics of typography. The result is a complete package that while utilitarian, doesn't feel overly boring.
